I’m still learning….

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

As a professional photographer I truly believe that no matter how good you are there is always room to learn new things and to be inspired by other photographers work.  I also think that if a professional photographer gets to complacent with their work then it gets flat and starts to all look the same from wedding to wedding.

It had been a few years since I went to any kind of workshops without having to go to a big convention and travel long distances, so when I found out about Susan Stripling’s workshop here in Annapolis I jumped on the opportunity to learn and grow from such a great photographer.  Most of the time photo workshops are just big infomercials about how good “X” is and how busy they are with very little actual knowledge being passed on… This workshop was far different.  This workshop was held at a local photographers home, and it only had a small handful of photographers there rather than the hundreds that would be there at a convention.  Susan, of course gave us about fifteen minutes on the history of her business and style, but then it was right into the nuts and bolts of the day.  There was lots I already knew, but I also learned a few new tricks, and got to meet and hang out with some of the areas best photographers which is always fun.

We also got the chance to work with some great models and stylists!

Thanks to

Amie Decker of Amie Decker Makeup for doing such a great job of styling the models!

Our bride model – Stephanie Swillet!

of course the truly, madly in love like no other couple I have ever seen – Sara and Jonathan!

Some pics for you to enjoy!

I lifted this from Beckers blog with his permission of course. :-)   I feel exactly the same way as he does about Haiti.

From his blog:

Like the rest of the world, my heart is heavy for the situation in Haiti right now. The images I’ve seen via Twitter and CNN have been so moving and I wish there was more that I could do. It’s incredible to see how generous people have been and I love that technology has made it even easier to donate money to help those who’ve been affected by this tragedy. Almost immediately after the earthquake hit, you were able to text “Haiti” to 90999 to instantly donate $10 via your phone bill.

While I think everyone should at least donate $10 via the text method, if you are able to donate more, Apple has made it easy to do so through iTunes. If you already have an iTunes account, the already have your credit card number, so it just takes a few seconds and a couple of clicks to donate more much needed money. Click here to donate through iTunes:

It’s good when people can put politics aside and come together in times like this:

Thirst Relief International has been a charity that the photo industry has been involved with for a few years now, and they are passionate about providing people with safe, clean drinking water… which is something that is necessary for sustaining life and something we certainly take for granted in America. Haiti is in desperate need of clean water and you can make your donation though Thirst Relief here:

Mashable also published a guide on how to help in Haiti. Please share this post and please, please, please, at the very least… text “Haiti” to 90999.

Jennifer and Nate – 07.18.09

Jennifer and Nate were married in July at the always wonderful United States Naval Academy. Even with the chapel in the middle of a reconstruction the ceremony was awesome as always.. I can’t wait to see what it is going to look like when it is finished…. But enough of that.. … These two are a HOT couple and you can just see how much they love each other… The reception was very cool… No fancy hotel, no fancy menu… it was at a home in Annapolis and the menu was a a good ol’ backyard BBQ… Gotta love it!

Annapolis MD wedding photographer – Historic London Town and Gardens

Megan and Patrick 05.23.09

Megan and Patrick were married at the awesome Historic London Town and Gardens in Edgewater… This is truly amazing place to have a wedding.  The guys had fun before the wedding playing slider/bowling and playing the jukebox at a local pub, while Megan and the girls got themselves pampered and prepped at Michaelangelos Salon in Huntingtown MD.
Megan looked so radiant in her dress and Patrick and the boys looked sharp in their nice suits.. combine that with the amazing weather and couple of wedding photographers and you get some great photos!

A new experiment

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Welcome to my latest experiment.  I figured I would try hosting my own blog on my own domain rather than using one hosted by another company.  While I truly love my xanga blog, I just don’t think it’s getting the exposure and tagging and SEO that it should, so I figured I give this a shot.

I have no idea how this wordpress thing works, but I will be learning and playing over the next few weeks and getting this tweaked to look awesome.

Stay tuned!
